self portrait vs selfie

People of my generation have become obsessed with the perfect photo of themselves. Selfies have become the most popular, and easier, way to take this photo. As defined by experts, selfies are photos taken by one's self that can be easily taken, replaced, and disposed of, because they do not have same time spent on them compared to a self- portrait. A self-portrait is defined as an piece of art (photo, canvas...) taken or created by the subject. Yet a selfie can be a self-portrait if the picture has been thought true and has had a lot of thought and meaning behind it.
Both of these forms of self expression are not limited by which they are expressed. Meaning that a self-portrait can be taken with technology, like with a phone or webcam. Yet painting a selfie would be opposite of the meaning, for a selfie is used to capture a moment without much detail or depth.
If I had to chose a favorite between these two forms of capturing one's self, I would definitely chose self portraits. These have so much more meaning and are much better quality. I do use selfies to take quick photos to remember certain events but I think that self portraits look much better and are way more fun to take. In terms of value, I say that both selfies and self portraits can have equal importance, but it depends on the setting and action occurring. For example, when you are at a concert and you take a selfie, it has the same value if you take a posed and thought through photo at a park or something.
