Nut graph

Nut graph- is a form of a paragraph journalists use to summarize the story without giving away all the  details.

In journalism, a nut graph is helpful to put a news story into context. It gives the main details and tells the readers why they should continue to read the story. It is the hook or the lead of a story and is present in the beginning of a story. It would include the 5Ws and how of the story and deliver it quickly, without a lot of elaboration.
If the nut graph is in the second paragraph, it is usually followed by a big/important quote. In the second paragraph, it is the transition from the lead to the rest of the story. If the 5ws are not in the lead, than the nut graph answers the missing information. The nut graph should try to give the essential theme of the story.
