opinion writing: plastic bags

All around the world, millions of plastic grocery bags are used, and eventually end up in the landfill or on the side of the road.
These “irrelevant” things end up in the stomach of many animals and pile up in landfills.
Humans have created this mess and we should be the ones to fix it. I think the best way to solve the death of so many animals is to switch to reusable, environmentally friendly bags.
Plastic bags are toxic to our Earth, they release toxins into the soil, animals will accidently eat them and die, and even clog our sewer system.
Plastic bags don't biodegrade, and will stay around forever. Imagine millions of plastic bags littered around the earth, not moving, just floating around forever.
Not only do the plastic bags themselves harm the environment, their production causes so much pollution.
Also, plastic bags are not recyclable, so you would end up having to throw them away or collecting them forever.
On the other hand, many environmental experts recommend using reusable bags for their gentle, almost non-existent effect on the environment.
There are also many other benefits to reusable bags, including discounts, no extra clutter, a sturdier carrier, and even the fact that it is customizable.
Many people argue that reusable bags are too expensive and that plastic bags are cheaper but that is not completely true.
In a year, on average you will use 520 plastic bags and a plastic bag cost about 15 cents, that costs you about 78 dollars!! While you can pay for a 5 dollar reusable bag that can last you longer than a year.
I live in Austin, and here plastic bags are banned. Many people think that this would be a burden but it hasn’t affected my quality of life at all.
In fact, I think that it has made me more environmentally aware and care more about the use of plastic bags.
If more cities do what mine is doing, we could reduce the number of plastic bags and fix the problems we have caused for our environment.
I think that cities should promote this by giving out free reusable bags or giving discounts to people who use a reusable bag.
I think that this incentive will help people realize the impact of reusable bags and how worth it they are.
Switching people from plastic to reusable bags is the best way to help our environment and reduce the impact of our littering.
