Top- 100 photos: Untitled (Cowboy)

1. I think this image caught my eye because it was one of the only ones in color also it doesn't look like a photo, it looks like a piece of art. The grain (noise) is really interseting to look at and adds to the painting-like feel. Also the sky is so beautiful and picturesque it seems like a fairy-tale world.
2. Richard Prince developed a whole new realm of photography with this photo, he created rephotography. Prince was desconstructing newspapers when he came across a Marlboro add with this photo, he took a photo of the add and cropped out the text. Prince was sued by the owner of this photo but when he was tried, the courts ruled in his favor. This photograph was sold for $1.2 million and foreshadowed the upcoming digital age of sharing photography.
3. I learned that Richard Prince is a very controversial contemporary artist. He mostly took photos of Marlboro adds and claimed these cropped photos his own. Many of the Marlboro photographers are still very angry that they put in all the creative effort and Prince gets the credit for just taking a photo of their work.
